Financial Accounting Principles

Since this a required course for all students majoring in business, I emphasize understanding financial statements and the ability to perform basic financial analysis, rather than procedural aspects of bookkeeping. A secondary objective is to improve student’s skills in spreadsheet design. I require participation and often call on students during class. Grading is based on a variety of assignments, including written and oral presentations, team work, computer lab activities and traditional end of chapter homework questions. At the end of the quarter I expect my students will have a much stronger understanding of the role and importance of accounting in society, of the terrible consequences of fraudulent or just misleading disclosures, and of how to be an inteligent consumer of accounting information.
